Upcoming changes coming to Fedora 43
What are the upcoming changes coming to Fedora 43?
Wayland only on Gnome
Fedora 43 is switching to only have Wayland as the login option on Gnome. Generally Fedora is the distro that pushes the envelope when it comes to new technology in the Linux ecosystem. This change fully inline with that, cutting edge but stable, goal of Fedora. For now this change is only for the Gnome session. Fedora will no longer include the Gnome X11 packages in the default Workstation installation. Fedora also planning to remove the X11 packages from the repositories, and migrating all X11 users to Wayland.
I think this is a great move. Wayland is in excellent shape and basically on par with, if not better than, X11 in terms of features. The X11 session at this point is more buggy and not maintained so it should not be used anymore.
New installer coming to Fedora spins
Fedora 42 included a new installer, built using web technologies, on the Workstation edition. The new installer will now be used in the all the different editions and spins.
The new installer is a much better experience than the old one. It is a much more guided, sequential, experience whereas the last installer was a non-linear experience. Built on web technologies hasn't had an effect on speed either. It's good upgrade to the installer.

As always Fedora 43 will come with the latest Gnome environment and latest KDE. I will have a separate article on the latest changes in Gnome 49.
